Product Description:
The Canyon Diablo Meteorite is a fragment of a massive iron meteorite that fell to Earth around 40,000 years ago. This meteorite is one of the largest and most well-known meteorites in the world, with fragments found in the Meteor Crater (also known as Barringer Crater) in Arizona, USA.
Geological Information
The Canyon Diablo Meteorite is an iron meteorite classified as an IAB (Iron, Ataxite, and Basaltic) meteorite. It is composed primarily of iron (~92%) and nickel (~6%), with small amounts of other elements such as cobalt, phosphorus, and sulfur.
Formation Process
The Canyon Diablo Meteorite is believed to have originated from the core of a planetary body that was destroyed or disrupted during the early formation of the solar system. The meteorite was then ejected into space, where it traveled for millions of years before entering Earth's atmosphere and falling to the ground.
