Orpiment is a bright yellow to orange arsenic sulfide mineral known for its rich color and soft, resinous luster. Material from China often occurs in massive or crystalline forms, sometimes associated with other sulfide minerals.
With a hardness of 1.5–2 on the Mohs scale, orpiment is very soft and should be handled with care. It is mainly used for mineral specimens and display purposes rather than jewelry.
