Schorl is the black variety of tourmaline, recognized for its deep black color, vitreous luster, and elongated prismatic crystal formations. Specimens from Brazil are highly regarded for their well-formed crystals, excellent luster, and association with quartz and feldspar in granitic pegmatites.
Composed of a complex boron silicate, schorl has a hardness of 7–7.5 on the Mohs scale, making it a durable mineral suitable for collections, decorative displays, and lapidary use.
