 This piece preserves two fossil shrimp, most likely of the genus Carpopenaeus, within a fine-grained limestone matrix typical of the Upper Cretaceous Konservat-Lagerstätten of Lebanon (Hjoula, Hakel and Sahel Alma), dated to roughly 95-100 million years old. These deposits formed in a warm, shallow sea where anoxic bottom conditions and fine carbonate mud allowed soft-bodied marine animals to be preserved in exceptional anatomical detail. The limestone itself, a compact sedimentary rock rich in calcium carbonate, typically registers around 3 on the Mohs hardness scale. Fine lamination and occasional dendritic mineral markings on the slab surface are common features of this locality's plattenkalk-type deposits.

A striking window into the ancient sea floor, this fossil slab captures two shrimp preserved mid-repose in fine, pale limestone. Their curved bodies, segmented tails and faint antennae traces are visible on the stone's surface, a rare glimpse of soft-bodied marine life that is normally lost to time.
